Other activities
As part of the convention, we will visit to the Fortress of the Bear and the Alaska Raptor Center. We also will go on a whale watching tour. This gives a new perspective on Sitka, and is a great time to see humpback whales, and occasionally orca whales. Last year there were 60-80 whales in Sitka harbor.
Shop in the local shops
Rent bikes and ride along the bike path to Silver Bay
Hike in the Tongass Forest (trail maps are available at the Sitka Convention and Visitors Bureau web site)
Walk through Totem Park
Go flightseeing
Visit Sheldon Jackson Museum
Attend services at St. Michael Russian Orthodox Church
Visit historical sites in Sitka
Walk the docks and look at the local commercial and recreational fleet
Catch a fish
Read and relax
